Block Coolant Drain Plug
:-staun
Seeing as how this is a truck and the area around the plug is limited, I recon that I will not be using a pipe wrench.
So my question is, what kind of tool do you use on the plug?
I am afraid to use a regular socket and the thing is in there real tight.
Put the socket on the ratchet and put the male end of the extension in the female(nut/bolt)end of the socket.
Now reach up to the square nut with the female end of extension and turn.

These tricks work great on the "driver" sized square fasteners (1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4). There are a couple of other sizes you may run into 5/16 and 7/16 that will require special sockets eventually.
Good luck!

sockets for the smaller sizes somewhere?
to follow up in that same area, seeing as for some strange reason, i fit under cars and truck much better thirty years ago.
so what is the best way to raise the truck, ramps or jack stands?
is it safe to put jack stands on front and back, i.e. raising the entire truck off the ground to keep it level.
I appreciate your help. just wish i had found this site long ago.

E Brake and chocks round out the safety issue.

There is an old discussion in this forum on Jack Stands you might want to read thru that had lifting ideas also.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I have ramps, two hyd garage jacks of differing size and design, 3/5/30T bottle jacks, 3 scissor jacks, 1 hi-lift jack, 1 set of good jack stands, 2 sets of sheet metal stands, wheels and cribbing materials. It all gets used at various times. You can't have too much stuff. I have collected it all over the years. Take care of your tools. keep them out of the weather. Inspect them before AND after use for damage and wear. Watch the welded joints on tools, ramps, and jack stands for signs of rust, cracking, and failure.
Keep it SAFE!

It is true, I did grow up in one of the radiation hot spots from dust deposited after all the A-Bomb tests. I drank lots of milk from cows that grazed all of that dusty grass etc. So I take it you all can't turn your heads around -hehe
I don't move houses around, just auto parts. I forgot to mention the 8/10' A-frame/tripod, come-along, and assorted chains etc. Of course I share a lot of equipment back and forth with a friend that even has more stuff so when we get into fun stuff we really have tools! He has an engine hoist, tow dolly, and a couple of engine stands also.
We just don't have a car hoist... -Yet
