door locks..........

71 F100.....it's annoying that the doors cannot be locked from the outside without the key....I want to lock the door slam it shut and be on my way....especially when passengers get out....anyone figure out a mod to keep the door lock from popping open

Ya might try electric. For years you had to hold the button in or handles up to get it to work.

yeah...I could go electric...I didn't really consider that...there is plenty of room for actuators....I thought you could lock the doors by holding the button in while closing the door ( my kids do it every time they get out of the truck...habit I guess)...but that doesn't work...thanks

I don't think that will work on these trucks. I have a 68 mustang and it works on it though. Maybe you could modify the locking mechanism out of a later model truck if you didn't want to go with electric locks.

Ya, one of those cheap power door lock kits with remote. That way you can walk up to and unlock doors or walk away and lock doors. I thought of getting one a few years back...just never did. After 20+ yrs of locking with key...it's so routine it's a no brainer!

As my dad always said about his 68 CS, the locks are "idiot proof" you can't lock your keys inside the truck. Old school but I can drive home.

same here, I was just so used to reaching over and locking/unlocking the passengers door and getting out and using the key; this has also kept me from being locked out a couple times.

Yup...I call them dingy broad proof LOL! Can't lock the keys in it..no how, no way!

Well, almost. The only time it caused me grief was when my one truck was a bit worn out and the door lock had a case of falling down if you slammed the door too hard. It did this one day..at work..while running!! DOH!! Had to get a coat hanger, pop the vent window open and reach thru to unlock the door. Jeez! what's the luck!

There is a tab on those latch assy's you can bend out of the way so that when locked, it stays locked.
I did this to the locks on my crew, it's bad enough reaching back to unlock them.
Clamp it in the vice apply the lock lever, then move the latch as if you were shutting the door. You'll see the tab that makes it unlock.

As long as you can get under the hood, you're not locked out. You would'nt want me to broadcast the trick would you?
