Hey, I'm 17 and am working on restoring a 68 truck, I replaced all the mechanical aspects of the truck from tires to the engine itself, everything. and am now working on the body. I would like to get some new doors and can't find any. I really need these doors so I can start to show my truck before winter. Everything else is finnally done.
I have a rusted out door on the drivers side and also need to replace it. I have a ton of yards close by with tons of california sheet metal. The problem is that either the doors are rusted in the same spot (!) or that they had aftermarket truck mirrors bolted to them, leaving ugly holes and often big dents if something hit those mirrors.
What I am getting to is: It is real hard to find good doors, even in sheet metal heaven here! You should see if there is someone parting a formerly restored truck or if you can get aftermarket parts, at least the door skins. I will go hunt for a skin, I think...
Been down the same road. Mine were rusted on the lower ouside edge. Everything else was good. I bought outer doorskins from JC Whitney. Cut the outer skin off of one door, placed the replacement on it. Guess what, the metal was thinner. It didn't weld up right. It looked o.k on the outside (with filler), but looked like real crap on the edges. I just make patch panels for the other door and it came out better.
I saw "Texas" doors at the Supernats last year for $250 a piece. These were whole but had little screw holes in various places throughout the door. Must have had a couple of signs screwed to it. I think you can order new doors from some of the catlogs available but I don't know about the quality.
If you go with replacement skins, just remeber to check the thickness of the skin.
Hi
Another California comment, if you can find straight doors, don't worry about mirror holes, weld them up and be on your way. I've been too picky about this myself and have passed up doors because they had mirror holes in them and now I have no doors.
These are getting harder to get. I live in northern Ill. and have been lucky and found 4 good doors, all with mirror holes. Going to look at two more today. Glass doors are $400.00 each, so welding up the holes or replacing a skin is worth the time.
Living here in the Southwest I come across rust free parts all the time. Alot of the doors have the mirror holes in them but some do not. Email me if you would like me to look for some doors or other parts. Maybe I should pick up alot of these parts even if I don't need them and offer them here. Bad thing is that shipping these heavy items cost money!
You can get them from Obsolete Ford parts, in their 2001 catalog they were on page 247. part #s C7TZ-23200-FG right side and C7TZ-23201-FG Left side. $399.00 each.; Good luck on your truck.

I know of a cheaper place than that...try http://www.usbody.com They carry a ton of fiberglass parts, including cabs for our trucks. I am going to switch my whole front end to one soon!!!

Hey guys. It's been awhile. I need a division bar for my passenger side door. The one at the front of the window and back of vent window. I also need the metal that goes around the vent window. These come out of the door in one piece. So if any of you out there have a totally rusted out door that has this piece in it please salvage it for me and drop me an email.
