i think the gas station went the cheap route with the gas they just got.i have been getting my gas there for over a year now and always 87 octain.i never had a ping until the other day when i filled up.is it the gas or somthing else ?

ive been using lucas gas stabilizer for two tanks and stopped this tank.

pull codes www.fordfuelinjection.com will show you how. could be some other reasons besides the gas. have you changed anything recently like timing? tune up? plug wires etc...

thats what we are here for. a code can be stored with out the CEL lighting up. see with yours being a 96 its obd-II. so it has a damn sensor for every orfice possible. for instance you have 3 o2 sensors instead of 1 o2 sensor for a 95 with same motor.

you might just start with a good tune up, its amazing what plugs, ford 9mm wires, msd cap & rotor and changing the air and fuel filter will do especially in your situation.
what has the temp been on the motor once its warmed up?

When my passenger side exhaust manifold decided to crack a couple of years ago, at the same time that I first started hearing to exhaust leak the truck started pinging badly and the check engine light came on. Eventually the pinging and the light stopped as the computer adjusted to the new mixture and I replaced the exhaust manifold a couple of months later and it never happened again.

I am not saying that you have a cracked exhaust manifold but there is probably something seemingly unrelated that is causing it.

according the the gauge (i know they arent all that great) its in the "normal" range.prolly on the "A", there abouts, never over heats.

also im better off with an msd cap ? i was gonna buy all motorcraft.i just changed the air and fuel filter.
