my truck after its warm accelerates really slow sometimes and chokes up until i get to around 3000 RPM then it smooths out and pulls and accelerates like normal....is this because my cataletic converters are cut off? i heard that a sensor reads the exhaust on how rich or lean it is running and i have dual turbo mufflers with no cataletic converters and the sensor sends a message to the computer to control how much fuel is delivered to the engine thus making it read incorectly sending either too much or too less of fuel making it choke up and sputter when i accelerate...someone comment back to help me out on solutions i can take to fix this...thanks..
If you are still running the factory y-pipe, then the O2 sensor should be located directly before where the cats used to be, which is relatively close to the starter. This sensor is critical for EEC-IV operation. In the factory set-up, the 1990's had a single HEGO (another name for 02/oxygen) directly in front of the two catalytic converters. Therefore, not having a cat would not effect the unburned fuel ratio read by the 02 sensor. This leads me to believe that:
A- someone messed with the exhaust and never put the 02 sensor back in, in which case the check engine light would constantly be on. Check to make sure that the light bulb has not been burnt out or removed by looking for the Amber light while the key is on with the engine off.
I´m having the exact same problem (i guessed it was the O2 sensor, but didn´t know where to locate it, thx ctch88)... does your Bronco sputters a little when it´s accelerating?.
when anyone has issue with there efi motors. checking the codes should be first and formost. www.fordfuelinjection.com will show you how using a paperclip and 5 mins of your time. this will get you close so your not throwing parts at an unknown problem.
