2 things you need to build a buzz relay to get it to spark. if you just supply 12 volts to a coil it will only spark once. Killing hte motors ignition and washing down the cyclinders is very hard on a motor. Now you did not hear this from me and you are totally responciable for anything you do. If you really want a flame show you need to inject RAW fuel directly into the pipe. NOW THIS IS VERY VERY DANGERIOUS!!!!! if the fuel does not light you will end up with a puddle of gas under the vehicle. Use an electronic fuel pump and a NOS nossle to mist the fuel into the pipe.
What got me at first was the way he had his coils wired. I kept wondering why it wasn't shorting out the whole system and then I remembered that automotive coils have so many winding that they have 3-7kohms resistance...LOL
Also, if your TFI is mounted on the ditributor, you need to relocate it to the fender with a good heatsink. This will definitely shorten the already short life of a ditributor mounted TFI...
i agree with radramrod2, Why not just put propane injection right before the plugs? I dont think you will get a very good effect with left over gas and it could be hard on the engine. there are many kits around for the propane, i think that will be the best route to go if you want killer flames.
The problem with that is there is not a whole lot of oxygen in exhaust if the motor is actually left running/combusting, would it work by lighting in the air behind the exhaust?
There is a huge old 50's cadillac around here with a very expensive looking custom flame paint job and chrome all over that has those, we see it at all the car shows in the summer. He has about 3" chrome tips on that extend about 1 1/2 ft out behind the car. I seriously doubt the owner uses it much, he said the first time they tried it it burned/bubbled the expensive custom paint on the bumper above.
propane gie you a funky looking flame. there are several companies out there that make kits that are easy to install. do a google search for flame throwers
I am a friend of powerford and I have been helping him with his flamethrowers. He got the idea from me when I made a set for my old truck. My post for my setup is under the straigh six club forum. Its titles Flame Throwers? I used the same setup to get spark to my exhaust that Powerford used and it does work. It makes the spark to the motor very weak but just enough that the motor does still run. It is a good idea to note that his truck is efi and mine is carb. He also has the air injection to the exhaust unhooked. You have to to install headers. My trucks flame thowers worked but only when warmed up. His truck blows smoke but it is black which means the fuel is being burned but not completly. Correct me if I am wrong but this smoke is not flammable? We have tried to hook a small air pump in to put in extra air into the exhaust but it only makes it pop loader. It will pop and crack but there just isn't a flame. This makes me think that there is not enough fuel to light. We need to know what parts we need to create a remote way to turn a propane tank on and back off when we flip the switch to light things up. We need an electric actuater that opens and closes a valve. Anybody have any other great ideas because if not We might windup doing something very dumb to make a flame. We have already tried putting choke cleaner in the air lines and blowing it in but it just sat in the fuel lines. Mabe more air? Any info would be great!
If any one would have any more suggestions I would be very grateful. Kits off the internet are $100 or more. My set up I have less than $10 in it don't want to spend more than $30 or $40 more. Suggestions please??????
electronic folk lift propane fuel shut off solinoid work well to turn your propane on and off if you want to inject propane. When you added the air and got a louder pop you need more fuel. The fue lis burning up inside the pipe and not outside it. You uwant ot keep your plugs near the tip of the exhaust and also the injection also. the flame is basically created outside the pipe not inside it.
