Well I have to change my GP's, they lasted 6 years so I guess thats not to bad.
Question is Is there anything I should do (check) while having the valve covers off? Thanks for any info
Check the Wiring harness & the connectors that go through the valve cover gasket for signs of chafing & charring. This is a great opportunity to look over the whole harness for signs of wear. Beats putting the new GP's in only to have trouble afterwards.

If there is damage to the wiring harness or connectors, would the GPs still ohm out to an acceptable reading?
Passenger side (firewall to front of engine)
farther most outside pin - Completely open circuit
2nd pin .9 ohms
3rd pin Completely open
4th pin Completely open
Drivers side
1st pin Completely Open
2nd pin Competely Open
3rd pin .1 ohms
4th pin Competely open
-checked ground numerous times to make sure on the open circuits
-This is checking the 2 most outer pins (4 total) on each side of engine
-Shop quoted me $180.00 to install all 8 plugs with me buying the plugs already
If the connector pins looked ok then, yup bad GP's. If they are burnt you might get lucky and only need pins but, I'd doubt it.
The reason I mentioned inspecting the harness is - I put new GP's in my wife's truck a few months back and didn't really look the harness over that good and ended up having to take the valve covers off about 7K later for an open injector circuit. The wire harness had rubbed through and shorted out to gnd.
Just goes to say - while you're in there look things over carefully to ward off future demons. I didn't take the time & it cost me another 2hrs work just a few months later. Wish I'd caught it when I had the covers off the 1st time.
make sure you have a 5-6 inch long piece of 1/4 inch vaccuum hose or simular rubber hose (i used some 1/4 inch rubber sprinkler system drip line and it worked great) to get the GP,s out and back in. the GP,s sit down in the head and are very difficult to R&R with out the rubber hose. once you losen the GP you put the rubber hose over the top of the GP and take it out
