Awhile back I posted a thread regarding a problem I had with noise sounding like starter hitting flywheel, only when I came to a sudden stop. I was told most likely starter bendex shot. Well after locating a starter complete, from a wrecking yard, and after ordering header gaskets, I finally tackeled the job. After removing headers and battery and battery box I was able to pull starter. There was no rubber gasket with starter luckily the starter I picked up from wrecking yard had one, now was a good time to repaint areas and reassemble. Today was first trip with truck and it's perfect.
Thanks to all for your great advise your wisdom is appreciated.
Staying low for now.
Robert
the rubber gasket is between the starter and housing, the gasket is almost the diameter of the starter half is thick the thick side goes on the opposite side of the three bolts. thats the best I can figure never saw one before and was only told about by a ford guru. It works so I'm not messing with it. maybe some one else can explain it better.
Thanks
Hi I was wondering what kind of wheels are on your truck.I been so wraped up with my motor and tranny I've neglected to think about wheels, darn I don't even know the bolt pattern on my 66 F-100? 5 on ?
Chad,
5.5" or 5 1/2" They're Five on Five point Five
Gangstakr,

Thanks Ford Boy you are the man,now I can start thinking about wheels but before I go spend money on wheels I have to decide if a narrowwed 9" and wheel tubs are in my future ah all the unknowns at this time.Thank you though seriously for all the help I really do appreciate it.I can't wait to mash on that gas pedal on the third yellow light!!!!!!!!!
Chad, it all depends on what you're seeking to do with your Slick when it's turn key. If you want people to drool & quake at shows, tub it.
If you want people to hate-fear you, don't tub it make it streetable but "Nasty Class" & devour every Pseudo Hot Rod you can find. Specially "Orange Replacement" engine ones. I've decent straight line acceleration but I also handle great. If I can hang with anything in a curve or a corner I can generally beat it coming out/ off it.
People don't like a truck going by. Especially a FoMoCo truck, & definitely a FoMoCo truck with an Ol' Man at the controls . . . . . .
Biggest problem with the 460 is sticking it and keeping it stuck at WOT. My 60' et stinks but my 660 and 1320 are below because my big end is above index for my clock time. Think acceleration curve dynamics similar to F-14D "Cat" after it's "slingshot" off a Deck.
Well I'm not sure of the brand. I may have to go look at the center cap. A friend of mine took them off of a expadition. and they didn't cost me anything. The tires are Michelins I did have to buy those. The rims are 16" X 8.5 and the tires are 235/75 16. They ride and handle great I am realy happy with them.
I will check out the name brand this weekend I will be out of town the rest of the week.
