Unhappy

Hello Everyone, This is an update on the ongoing problem with my new rebuilt Motorcraft 6.9 diesel for my 1986 Ford F-250 4x4 that I had installed by an independant truck repair facility.

I finally got the truck down to the Ford dealership that has been taking care of the warranty work. If you will remember the latest concerns that I had were the low compression readings that I had on one of the cylinders, rusty injector lines, a c-clip missing on the new injector pump pivot arm, fuel leaking into the valley pan, a noisy lifter , and low power going up any incline.

After a couple of weeks they called me to say that my readings of the compression would not qualify for any work to be done and that they would have to do their own compression test. It will cost me $300.00 for them to do it and I would be responsible for the cost. Since I had no alternative, I said to proceed with the test.

The next day they called and said that the test was normal and that they found no problem with the compression. They said that all cylinders were within range and the range was between 425 and 450 psi. Well, I am shocked and feeling pretty stupid, to say the least. How can I have such a different reading?

The service rep said that I could come down and see for myself and I did just that the next morning.

The first thing he tells me is that he forgot to call and tell me that the tech had to go to a doctors appointment. So no tech to talk to. He showed me the truck anyway, and, the first thing that I noticed is that all the injector lines are removed from the injectors and bent out of the way of the injectors. I then see the glow plugs out and laying on the radiator cover. I see their Rotunda compression tester, with a brocken lens , sitting in #3 hole and the manual for 1987 E-series laying next to it. I checked the procedure in their manual and compared it to mine and found it is the same procedure.

The manual does not say to take out the injectors or remove the injector lines to do a compression test. Is there something that I don't know here? Did I do the compression test incorrectly?

Can't the open injectors get dirt in them and not work?

I am feeling like a fool here. I did the test exactly as the book said. My book is for 1984 F- Series. I there a difference for the 1986 F- Series? I also did the test twice and got the same readings. How can I be so different?

I will be going down to the dealership tomarrow morning to talk to the tech.

I will perform the compression test again here in my garage, then, take it to an International dealership and have the test performed again. I will do this only if my readings are the same that I originally had.

I wonder what they are going to say about the noisy lifter? I tried to take the truck to another dealer, to lighten the load of my current dealer, and the technicians came out and said that they had no training on the 6.9 and they had no idea how to work on it. I tried to make them aware of the lifter noise and they said that they could not hear it. It was loud enough to make me not drive the truck after that.

What to do?

I feel for you on this. I put a reman 7.3 turbo in my truck.
After 3 of them blew up when they sent me the fourth motor I tore it down before installing it.
I then refused to install it.
Found most of the same problems while it was still bolted to the shipping pallet.
It took four months to get my money back.

I really don't know what to recommend for a couse of action in your case.

Edsofish, I would happy to participate in any letter, email [?] campain you wish to start. We all have IDIs on this site and at some given time we will need to replace them. Are we going to to use a Motorcraft rebuilt IDI, after the customer service you have recieved, not likely! This is just a thought...you are in a tough spot, you purchased your motor from Ford and had installed by someone other than Ford, not that it should make any difference. Now it seems your throwing good money after bad...my heart goes out to you! Keep us posted. lol
