Hey folks, a have an 88 XLT with a 351W that has 250,000 miles on it. I'm fixin to put a new motor in, but I'd kind of like to put a transmission in that won't have me running 3200 RPMs while I'm going down the interstate. I know of a lot of people who have had trouble with E4ODs, and think the AOD, or A4OD is probably the way to go, but I have no idea where to start, as tranny work isn't exactly my specialty. Has anyone out there tried this? What parts do I need, and what special steps do I need to take in order for this swap to function properly???
Thanks,
John
The C6 and the AOD were used interchangably in the early years of the AOD so the swap should be fairly simple. You will need the TV linkage because the AOD uses this setup for shiftpoints rather than vacuum or electronics

Don't forget the flex-plate has to be changed. Have to find one from a Crown Vic with the 351 & AOD combo. Broncos were not made with a 351/AOD combo's. I am running the set-up as well as a couple of other guy's on here

I have someone else telling me that a BW1356 won't bolt up to the AOD, and that I need to make some sort of crossmember change. Anyone ever heard of this?
it will bolt up as long as your aod came from a 4wd truck or bronco. you may need to get a different crossmember but that to should be easy to find at the wrecking yard from any engine/aod 4wd setup.
Shouldn't I be able to use all of the linkages and brackets off of a Bronco OR an F-150? As long as the 150 is 4wd the rest should be about identical shouldn't it/
