Headliner Install Question

I'm thinking about getting the 1 piece ABS headliner for my 55. I previously cut out the center metal roof brace so I could install the 3rd brake light in the back of the roof. Is that brace necessary for the headliner install?

Not with the ABS headliner kit. My bar is missing also and at one time had a sun roof installed. Check with mid fifties on their ABS kits, I heard, and they personally told me, theirs is the easiest to install. They have smooth and pattern finishes. I know several people who installed them had theirs covered with material after being installed. My truck is going in this week to the upholsterer (because I don't want to mess with a headliner or install the ABS). He's going to do the fabric, but says he's going to have to make a wood frame so the headliner won't sag in the middle after a while. That shouldn't happen with the ABS ones.

I installed the Rod Doors 1 pc headliner. I think all MF headliners come from them. They use an attaching system similar to velcro, but much stronger, can't remember what they call it. The instructions say to put several of these on the center brace prior to install, then with the headliner in place push up, so it will stick to the headliner....that said, JMO, the headliner is a really sturdy piece. It lays very close if not touching this brace. I think more than anything the velcro? keeps the headliner from rattling against this brace.

Thanks, guys!
I won't worry about trying to fit it back in there, then.
