Throttle Linkage Issues

Have a 1955 F-100 with a '72 302 2-barrel in it. I'm having issues with the throttle linkage. I want to use a cable instead of the arm, but have run into some various problems. What have you all done in so far as the throttle assembly. If you could provide me details to include the pedal, the cable, the hole in the firewall through which the cable runs, and anything else concerning that whole assembly, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks so much... you all are invaliable.

After I stuffed the big Caddy engine in my 49 I decided that a cable throttle would be the easiest way to work it. I searched the aftermarket suppliers and it seems like there are several options out there. I was pretty broke at the time though and needed a cheaper alternative.
I searched the wrecking yards for a solution. I ended up taking the pedal assy and cable from a late 60's GM midsized car (Skylark, cutlass, etc) I had to reshape the pedal linkage slightly but nothing major. It bolts to the firewall with two screws and take a 1/2" square hole for the cable.
Since you are dealing with a Ford in yoru Ford I would search the Ford section of a local yard and see what you can find. Maybe a 80's model truck (I think they are cable actuated)

Good luck with it

I used the stock pedal and arm with a lokar cable in my 56. It has a 351W/AOD and a edelbrock carb.

i know you are looking for a cable solution but for a cheap and easy solution what i used on my 54 that i have 390 4 bbl with a c6 it cost me about 10 to 15 bucks to do i got two rod ends from a briggs and stratton dealer thats right a lawnmower dealer and a piece of stainless round stock i tapped the ends of the stock put one bend in it used the stock pedal tapped the hole in that the ends i got from briggs have a long barrel with female theads in one end the other has a male thread coming out at a 90 degree angle so of like a mini drag link end and its sealed so no dirt or moisture can get in

just my .02$

I'll second that. I went with the Lokar black housing throttle cable and the chrome spoon style throttle pedal. I should have some pics in my gallery.

I put a 351W on top of the Heidts MII crossmember, used the Lokar aluminum gas pedal and the throttle cable, as well as the trans. kickdown cable. It was so much easier than trying to find other alternatives..
