Yeah, one reason that caught my attention is I remember looking at that when I'd buy props for the boat. Some companies would give you a break away aluminum hub for the center of the prop, where as other would just slip right on the prop shaft.

MUCHO DENEIRO to replace lower unit parts. Nice and cheap to replace a stripped prop hub. Don't ask how I know this!!!! Ahem.......$3500 worth of damage from a concrete piling. Ooooops!

Oh, that I DO understand! Here on Long Island, you don't use a stainless prop.

Otherwise, you'll be rebuilding the lower-unit almost every time you go out.

Yup, I'm originally (and for most of my life) from Upstate NY. EVERYTHING in the Adirondacks is a rocky bottom. If you want a stainless prop, you better run an aluminum hub.

Sorry, didn't mean to get so far off topic.

Maybe NOT so off-topic...

If it's aluminum, they'll "break away" before breaking some other more expensive part.

I was just googling this topic, and found someone with "hub fuses" - special replacements for the inside of the Warns that break before you break an axle or u-joint.

Hmm...

Really, that's a pretty smart idea.

Think about how much of a pain in the butt it is to replace the stub shaft. Heck, you might as well replace the ball joints and unit bearings while you're at it, because all that stuff has to come off to replace the stub shaft.

Whereas if the hub grenades, you just pop the snap ring, pull the hub, and drop in a new one...............5 minutes...........Done.

This is where I got mine from.....

http://www.tellico4x4.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id/12833

Mile Marker Hubs for $121.95 + $20.95 for Shipping = $142.90. This was the best price that I could find.
