Itmay be the same as my 2003.
Here's what my 2003 owners manual says;

How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of four)
available before beginning this procedure.

1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 1 (LOCK) position to 3 (ON).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 1 (LOCK)
position and 3 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 3 (ON)
position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.
Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry
transmitter has been programmed.
8. Repeat Step 6 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.
9. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters.
10. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been exited.

You should probably double check your manual to make sure the procedure is not in there. If you dont have one, you can download one from here; http://www.genuineflmservice.com/default.asp?page=E4

Good Luck...........

Glad it worked. I didn't know how different it might be from my '03. I read a thread here regarding the '94's that two terminals had to be jumped in a box inside a rear quarter panel, but that was supposed to only be for '94's.

So the book says that I need 2 keys and I only got one when I bought the truck from a Ford Dealer 5 years ago...

What's the going price to have a second key made and programmed? Am I better off buying a blank SucuriLock Key on eBay and bringing it to the dealership?

Anyone have to do this?

You'll need to call your dealer to see what they charge. Probably over $100, although some charge less. Also, some advanced locksmiths can do it and will do it cheaper, check around. Also, you don't mention what year, but you probably have a PATS key system.

It's a 99, and I think you're right about it peing PATS and not SecuriLock... I have use a locksmith near me for some business related things, and he seemed to be top grade since he did some work for me that another locksmith had turned down...

I'm taking our 96 Explorer in for the mystery brake light problem in the morning, so I'll try to remember to get a quote...

Regarding the Locksmith, it will be determined by wheather or not he has the box to talk with your computer.

I spent around $15 per key for some spares for my '03 off of EBay. Then I had to get them cut locally. But I had 2 originals, so I could program my own. All in all, that dealer cost isn't as bad as a number that I've seen written about on this site, but you still may be able to do better.

I was thinking about buying a couple off eBay, but I only have one key so I have to bite the bullet on at least one key... I'm just trying to find the cheapest bullet to bite...
