i have a 1997 460 that iam replacing a headgasket on and replacing some other parts. just looking for some info or advice on a gear drive timing set for this engine?
Why? The expense will never be recovered in increased longevity. Just use the early straight up chain and sprocket set for improved performance and mileage.
Bear is right infact I am not sure that a good roller timing chain won't outlast a gear drive setup. They are intended for race applications that don't care about longevity. What is good on a race engine is not neccesarily good on a street engine. Look at it this way my race engine probably has less than 50 miles on it, and I just finished more or less rebuilding it, and and checking everything for proper specs, and thats not uncommon.
I see your point that i dont need it and a chain drive would be fine but i love the whining sound of the gears. iam not totally sure i want to do this yet either. i know you cannot use gear drives in some engines if it has a knock sensor. iam not sure if the EFI 460 has one because i havent looked it up yet. just wondering if anyone has experience or has one in their EFI 460.
