Hey all, I need some assistance in regards to replacement speedometer gears. I have replaced my speedo, cable and the small gear on the end of the cable, but apparently I need a new gear that goes inside the tranny. Can anyone point me in the direction to get this part? It drives me nuts having my speedo not working.
Mike

What is: the year, series (F100, F250, etc) and the rear AXLE ratio?
Your profile sez: 1970 F100, is that what you want the gear for? There are 5 different gears listed for this year and model.
Without knowing the rear AXLE ratio, I can't help you.
Mike It is a little odd for it to stop working if it once was. Did you purchase a new gear already? They have left hand and right hand twists. Tis my understanding the autos have right hand twist and manuals have left hand twist. All of the auto gears that I have seen are right hand twist.
Bill will have to get you a part number. I pick them up when yarding so I never need a part number.
Hey guys,
It is a 1970,f-100. It has 3.5:1 axle gears. I have replaced everything for the speedo except the drive gear inside the tranny that goes on the output shaft. That was a part that I didn't know you even had to replace. I put my finger in the hole for the speedo cable and the gear felt like it had worn in the middle as it was contoured or something. I'm new at working on these old fords and not having a repair manual makes it a lil more difficult. My truck has a NP435 w/ a Dana 21 TC If that makes any difference. Thanks, Mike

1970 F100 4WD / NP-435 / 3.54-1 rear axle ratio (no 3.50-1's listed in the parts catalog for F100's w/a NP435 & 4WD till 1972).

John: The 3 speeds (not w/ O/D), some 4 speeds and the autos use driven gears that slant //// this-away.
This is one of them.
BTW: ALL the driven gears are still available from Ford.
oh yeah I wasn't sure about the gears, I decoded it and all I found was 3.5:1. I know my truck has the original drivetrain so I will go with the gears you say. I got my info from another ford site. It has an axle code of 08
