When I went to order my '06 F350 PSD, the printed estimate included a $75.00 charge for the first tankful of diesel that came with the truck. Is this standard or do I just look like a chump?
I would be throwing a fit, for what the truck costs they can give you a tank of fuel, and before you sign any papers when you pick it up tell the dealer your not leaving till there is a set of free mud flaps in the truck.
I've never seen a tank of fuel listed separately, but I agree you probably pay for it in any case, somehow/someway. I would certainly question them on it...
To get nit-picky, you say it's listed as 'estimated' cost of fuel. If you decide to pay for it through your dealer, just make sure they don't inflate the price per gallon.

This is exactly what I did. My order form showed 23 U.S. gal of gas(mines a diesel) for a price of $42.09 dealer invoice. I test drove the truck 353 miles then the dealer filled the tank and I said throw in set (front & rear) mud flaps with Ford name on them and I'll write you a check. Dealer cried some but I drove home in my new Super Duty. Hang in there, they will want to move this truck before they have to pay Ford.
The dealer is required to fill the tank by Ford. However, like others said, it is not free. You are paying for it. My dealers have always itemized it out and expained it. I tried to get it removed and always failed. I never tried to get something else in exchange, but I am sure that trick would work. Good Luck and enjoy the new truck!
Sounds like some of you guys need to find a new dealer. I've bought a lot of new Fords including my '06 F250 and never had the initial fuel itemized as a charge item to the sale. As a matter of fact my dealer always gives a certificate for the first fillup. I don't argue that customers pay for it in the long run, but it should not be a line item on the invoice.
After we had settled on the final price of my truck, out the door, I told them they would need to send me on my way with a full tank of fuel. After some hemming and hawing, they complied.
I purchased mine from the Ford dealer in Vancouver, WA, for delivery in Elkhart, IN. I paid an extra $100 for the dealer prep in Elkhart. When I picked up the truck, everything was good, but the tank was only half full. When the Vancouver dealer followed up a day later, he asked about the fuel. He was upset when I told him it wasn't full, but it didn't bother me. He told me he would make it up to me next time I got back to Vancouver. Apparently, he couldn't let it go. The next day I got a call from the Elkhart dealer, who told me to come back to top off the tank. I did, and it took about 3/4, so I actually got 5/4 of a tank of fuel.
Not only did I get the extra fuel, but I also got an unexpected $2,000 rebate that was put on after I ordered the truck, but before it was delivered.
The fuel charge is a Ford factory charge it is not from the dealer, at least not all of it. When I ordered my 06 F350 last September the x-plan paper work from the factory listed 13 US GAL GAS 34.45, although it's a SWB (29 gal) Diesel. My dealer did make sure it was completely full before I picked it up. Actually I think I made out pretty good considering that that is, in affect, the cheapest I've paid for a tank. I do think it's "funny" that in the past the dealer has made a big deal out of pointing out that they filled the tank, this time, since my cousin started working at Ford and we bought via x-plan, we got "real" paper work that showed the truth and, not surprisingly, the dealer was less enthusiastic about pointing out the full fuel tank.
