Electrical Problem

Hello, I am searching to see if anyone has anything similar happen. I was coming down a steep hill and hit the OD off button. Immediately, all the guages on the dash turned off, and the engine went into idle. I had no control over the throttle, and had to coast the rest of the way into town. Any ideas?

Sounds like one of the wires where the shifter stalk meets the steering column is shorting to ground.
Do a search on previous posts.

There was an earlier post that said a similar problem was cause by the wiring harness for the OD off button mounted on the turn signal lever. The wire runs through the lever, and makes a tight, sharp turn where it exits. working the turn signal eventually wears through the insulation, causing a short. the new turn lever assembly has more slack in the wire, so this shouldn't happen again.
