You guys are probably both right to some extent, in my case. I do have a cab mount in pretty bad shape, which would effect the alignment of the shift levers and rods.
On the other hand, all the linkage is tight, except in the column. The top part of the column, where the shift indicator is loose. I was thinking it was more in the shift lever.
Can I get replacment parts anymore? Can it be tightened?
Heh, ok i have a bit to say about this myself as im going through this on my '73 and it turned out to be a PITA.
Pulling the colum apart was easy. I got everything removed and catorgized (my broken piece was the lever in the inside where it hits the pin.)
Howvere after 2 junkyard runs im still stuck in a hole. I pulled a complete colum out of a 74 and a 78. THEY WERE DIFFERENT than my 73. On the 73 the shift indicator sits on the colum. Ob the others i puled its on the dash at the vase of the colum. Internally the pieces were ALMOST the same but not quite as some of the internals seem to be fliped from top to bottom. End result was that nothing matched up. I think i just need another 73 truck to make it work, as i wasnt aware they changed the colums within one year.
Just something to keep in mind as it seems 73's can have some very minute differences from a 74+ it seems (or i have some mutant truck).
