66 Power brake setup??
Thanks,
WK
I don't believe you're on the right track here.
A 66 uses a single circuit brake system & tiny single action vacuum chamber booster, meaning it's not split front X rear and it uses a single chamber Master Cylinder to stop. It also has narrow shoes, smaller diameter wheel cyinders, and drums which are notorious for not disapating heat. . . .
Adding a 78 booster, if you can get it to fit & work will not only wear your brakes out faster, it may perhaps make it stop worse because of the added heat generated by a system not made to deal with rapid heat build up resulting from using an oversized and overpowering booster on a non Power system. Adding a two circuit, dual chamber master cylinder will only overpower the already minimal non power system.
The stock 66 booster is about 1/5th the size, volume, & application power of a 1978
booster made for a split system, a dual chamber (longer travel piston) Master Cylinder & power front disc brakes. I would advise either put a power brake system on your 66 or leave it alone, but don't arbitrarliy add a booster and or a power brake type dual chamber M'Cyl to a single circuit, non power brake system.

i should be fine mounting it to my truck and using it. is there any way i can get the needed vacuum off of my 223.
i may put the 302 C-4 from the van into the truck at a later date
get a master for a torino vintage 68 with power drum brakes. Once you switch to discs then use the torino as a core.

PS, Pete: Wayne knows just as much as you or me do he just dont let on LOL.....The something else has a large XL painted on the side of it.
What's had me messed up is how come there's a split system in a 73 Slick?
I agree with the power drum set up from a Torino, but I worry about the little Shoes & Cylinders, or if he's got twin half cyl set up. Never seen them take power well at all.
Oh, I see now he's pulling my chain Xpert Like. But If he owns that "Proto -T" XL, with a 7.0 Liter then I need not worry.
But if he's planning to go "Honking 1320s" with it, I can't tell ya what [not world] but a UNIVERSE of real difference those F-150 Trailer Spcl, 14" x 1.25" Rotors & Double Piston, F-250 L-Duty calipers with power make over century+ mark. I got them & 3"X11" big cyl rear drum brakes with a big inch 79 F-150 Vacuum "cylinder pumper" and I can take the wind out of my sails as pretty as I please. AND do it over and over and over again.

The 7.0 should be at the machine shop being freshened......
I should let you know when the thrash session is and you could fly in....
What Wayne is looking for in the interim is additional ease of braking on his 66. no speed demon or antics invloves. The truck is for his daughter to use and it needs help in the brake department. I personally always use the 78 79 lever type booster for a vac unit just due to the ease of setting the pedal to the rod and th added valve cover clearance. I even made up a template for the adaptor to use these on the eariler 61 to 64 fire walls. I use the intermediate car master in stead of the mustang for a little more volume.
Now if he all ready had the disc brakes installed then i use a 78 or 79 power disc brake unit and pre bent brake lines.

I will assume that the master is a dual type as is currently installed in place of the old single pot.
The patterns for boosters changed in 65 so an adapter to the modern four bolt spread is needed to place it correctly on to your firewall. Again i assume that the truck is a pre 65 truck if it has a 223 in it.
