Vibration Problems with Higher Miles

I have been reading a few of the threads with people having vibration problems with later model F-150s, and they all seem to be showing problems with low miles. I have an 04 FX4 SCAB, and mine just started to do it at 21,000 miles....Is this something else, I hope?

The first time it did it to me was a couple days ago at about 50 MPH, and then today at about 40. Both times it came and went in about 2 minutes, starting and stopping at lights. Not sure what to do.

Any ideas? I am riding on 18s with the stock Good Years.

Thanks

My 04 with 16K on it has just started to vibrate but only occasionally. Seems to be after it has been parked for a while. The vibration starts about 30 MPH and continues to 60 and is really bad. Shakes the whole truck, low frequency, feels like a really, really bad tire. Then, it just goes away....not sure what to do as I have not yet been able to duplicate it on purpose.

It came and went? The vibration that people have complained about, dont work like that. It could be that you are having issues with your parking brake sticking. It comes and goes...and when it comes, you know it!

That has to be it...now that i think of it, on both occasions I did use the parking break. The vibration kicked in about 5 minutes into my commute though. Is this a problem with the parking break? Or is it just not disengaging all the way?

Good thing I have 7 years warranty on my '05 F-150 (under 1,800 miles).

There are some actuators that freeze up, causing the brake to stick. You should use the search function, and hunt around a bit. I know I have posted my exact Ford work order regarding this problem. It was fixed free by the dealer.

Thanks for the tip! It makes me feel much better. This truck has been great to me since I've had it, and I feel like that isn't going to change.

I'm thinking it is a flat spot on one of the tires. My truck sits 90% of the time now and it seems to only do this the first mile or 2 after it has sat for a month or so.

Probably going to trade it for a diesel soon anyways...

It could be the tires. my 05 started vibrating at 70 mph and would stop around 75mph. the dealer put on some new tires fixed it right up.

just to throw another log on the fire, the torque converter lockup happens around 45-50 mph. If you are due for trans service, try that

My vibration starts long before lock up..it's a very low frequency vibe..really weird and only just started this winter. I thought it was a big hunk of ice stuck on the wheel at first (while towing my snowmobile trailer) but it's still here every once and a while.

Ahhh well...as I said...trying to trade it now so maybe its a non issue.

Thanks

I finally got some satisfaction from ford in the way of an $11,500.00 cash settlement for the inconvenience of the vibration. Makes the truck feel a lot better.
