hey guys
any one have a zf for a 4x4 that i could buy for parts.i have a 91 zf 4x2 trans thats good just would like to replace output shaft an rear housing to make it fit a transfercase. thank for your time
I need to know the transmission markings for a M5oD-HD for 2wd if you can help me out. (E9TA version)
What markings are you refering to? I have 4 M5 trannys from 2 wheel drive trucks. One is from a 92 and later model. I didn't know they had an HD version of the M5 tranny?
Now that will take some work. I have one burried in the shed and the others are at the shop. now if I can remember to write the numbers down I will. Still not sure on the M5 HD tranny thing. Are you reffering to the ZF trans?
Finding the parts you need to swap a 4x2 to a 4x4 may be costly. it may be cheaper and easier to find a 4x4 tranny.
Just so I could tell the difference between the two. All the transmissions I have looked at turned out to be Mazda leaving me with still trying to locate a ZF 2wd for 3.55.
I picked up on that in your other post. All of the Zf SB trannys from a 4x2 will work. Not sure why you are looking for one from a 3.55 geared truck. The rear axle will have nothing to do with the tranny.
Very few F150 trucks came with a ZF and if it did it was more than likely a special order. Most F250 light duty trucks also cam ewith a Mazda tranny. You need to find a HD F250 or F350 truck to get the ZF and the F250 and F350 trucks should have the FF 10.25 rear axle if it came with a ZF. If the truck has a semi floating 10.25 axle then it will more than likely be a Mazda tranny.
Do a search for ZF pics and you will see what one looks like. The ZF is shorter than the Mazda tranny. Also search for ZF specs and you will find more stuff to read up on.
I've only found one ZF tranny in the yard I go to and it is a SB 4x2 tranny. It is the only ZF I have ever seen come though this junk yard and I am at the junk yard every week. I've found several Mazda trannys from 4x2 trucks and as for 4x4 trannys they are hard to find in either model.
I drove a 7 hour round trip to buy the 460 ZF I have for my 78 Bronco. Good luck with your search.
Man....I had one hellacious day when I found my ZF. I first drove to Ann Arbor from Cincy to pick up a 4x4, then met a guy in Toledo that drove from Cleveland to swap me a 4x2. I got a steal on one from eBay ($200) and about 300ish after the trip. ZFs are on eBay all the time and you just have to find one that you like for a price that you like. Yards around Cincy try to rape you for one.
By the way Bob, the trans was beautiful and will be going into service at the end of this month with its new motor and diff.
Hey Mike, how ya doing. I ended up finding another SB 4x2 ZF in the yard I go to. Now I have the 4x4 and a 4x2 SB ZF trannys along with the BB ZF. I'll be in your area the weekend of the 15th picking up a 78 Bronco.
All of the Zf SB trannys from a 4x2 will work. Not sure why you are looking for one from a 3.55 geared truck. The rear axle will have nothing to do with the tranny.
It only makes a difference for the driving speedo gear in the tranny, which is also listed on the metal tag. I think 3.55 has 7 tooth gear and 4.10 has 8? And that's only up to 92, after 93 they changed to electric speedo, with the signal coming from the rear axle.
