i recently aquired an 85 f150. it needs alot of work, but i am gonna make a project out of it. the only thing i can find on motor info is that the tag under the hood says it is a 5.8 liter. what cubic inch do you think i have or how can i find this out? i would also like to know what diff i have in the rear. would that be on a tag on the rear? i have not looked yet, since i was here already i thought i would ask.
thanks for any help,
rat
5.8L is 351w
And for the rear end if it has a cover on the back it's a 8.8 if no cover but the entire carrier comes out the front it's a 9" ford. I am assuming of coarse that your dealing with a F150 and the tag on there should give you the gear ratio assuming no one has changed gear of coarse.
Well sorta but you kinda got that backwards it should read "351c and 351m are also 5.8L" but all of the 5.8L labeled fords in the US are 351W
I saw a '79 thunderbird that I could swear it said '5.8L' on the valve cover sticker and said sometihng about 'modified' below that.. I could be wrong though..
Yeah well you see, my brain is shutdown for 2 weeks spring break lmao, why should i think when i dont have to, and what is saying it is stock? could be a motor from a earlier or later model
If it's a 351w it will say 351 in the CI spot on the valve cover sticker, with WINDSOR in the FAMILY box. If it's a 351m or 400 the sticker on the valve cover will read 351/400 and then in the box UNDERNEATH that it will read either 351 for the 351m, or 400 for the 400.. This is a moot point though as 1982 was the last year for the 351m, so he (you) have a 351W, probably a 2bbl.
