Question Truck running rich

My 1991 F150 with a 351W is running real rich. I stand behind the truck and I can smell the fuel big time. Just replaced the injectors because the truck was parked for about 2 years. Took the spark plugs out and some plugs were white some were dark and some were half and half. Any ideas?

Check your fuel pressure regulator. Pull the small vacuum hose from the center and see if it has gas in it (it shouldn't.) If it does, then it's got a ruptured diaphragm. Also, check the pressure at the Schraeder valve (should be around 35-45 psi at idle.)

Replaced the regulator and I have about 42psi. One thing I forgot to mention the truck has a really sluggish take-off.

That's the funny thing, no codes are coming out.

You mean the Check Engine Light isn't coming on, or you've actually put a code scanner on it and gotten no codes?

I had this happen once. Rotten HEGO sensor didn't spit a code, because it was coated in carbon. So, it wasn't testing the air on the way out, ran it rich, and the same thing was happening.

check your sensor before you go pay $40 for one. It's located in the exhuast pipe before they are joined into one pipe. There's a small connecting pipe between them, and the HEGO sensor is screwed into that piece.

The sensor seems to be good, how would you know if it is no good?

Check the timing, and maybe even try to advance it a bit. If the timing is retarded to much, the spark will ignite too late and not have enough time to fully burn the fuel. This will give you a rich running engine that has no power and will definately be sluggish.

You are the man Mr.G, timing was way off, set the timing right and now I got take-off power. Thanks again.
