Well I tryed driving around with the A/C on today, and it worked fine at first, but then it stopped blowing cold. I turnede off the ac and pulled into a parking lot and lifted the hood, and sure enough now when I turn it on the clutch isn't spinning again. It works sometimes and not others, and I don't know what conclusion to draw. Bad clutch? (just replaced it) Incorrect installation? or is the compressor going out? I'm still running R12, so If I have to change out the compressor i'm sure i'll have to convert to the R134 or whatever its called. I need some suggestions, I don't want my compressor to sieze up and catch on fire or anything, so i'm only running the ac for short periods for evaluation purposes...........

It may not be turning on because of a low charge.
Noise is not a good thing and these compressors are very weak. If you really want the A/C to work, it may be a good idea to get it serviced now before the compressor really goes bad and locks up:
Here is what just happened to me:

And an explanation of what happens if you let them go too long making noise:

You need a bunch of stuff to fix these systems right, at least a gauge set/manifold, a vacuum pump and something to flush with.
