The previous owner messed with the timing on the bronco "to get the most performance out of it" and now on first startup when you start accelerating it kinda boggs out 2 or 3 times (still stays running, not bad but very irritating). then if you shut it off and then try to start it again it puffs some black smoke and takes two or three times to start(if its hot) now if you start it, drive somewhere and shut it off, let it cool down it will start again no problem.
sounds like a carb issue more then timing. if timing was adjusted for best performance that would only help it start and run better. have you checked timing with a light to see where its at?
I was kinda thinking carb but everybody says TIMING. i dont have a timing light but ill borrow one from somebody. it really only happens in 2nd gear but its not the tranny. it just started a couple days ago, it made a 160 mile trip home on the 25th with no problem. ill try some carb cleaner and see where the timings at if i can. anybody else ever have this happen to them?
the timing is dead on. i replaced the cap, rotor, starter(because i fried it), bought a timing gun and checked the timing, fuel filter. nothing changed. today i drove the truck and bought a coil and ignition module. installed it on the truck, went to crank it up and it started but wont stay running on its own power, i shut it off to make sure everything looked connected under the hood and it looked fine. went to start it again and got nothing but cranking. put the old coil and module back on to see if the new parts were the problem and got nothing still. when i had it running after i put the new parts on, the truck would spray gas out of the top of the carb(not a mist a full spray of gas) into my eyes. Now what? anyone near big bend wisconsin wanna earn a couple cases 'o' beer????
It sounds like you were barking up the wrong tree. I would never have touched the ignition, cause that was never your problem, it sounds like it all lies in your carb.
Where does the fuel come from? the vent, or another port. If its coming out of your vent, I would say the float is stuck open due to some trash or somebody ajusted it too much.
