Thumbs up

Welcome to FTE allenohara! I am sure you will have many positive experiences here.

Others will have an opinion on your diesel questions for sure. So here is mine.

It has been my belief that the 6.0L PSD is a fine engine. However it does have a flaw or two in design. Mostly the EGR valve...they get baked with black soot...and cleanings are regular. The maintenance is very expensive too...even if you do it yourself. One advantage here in the '05 and '06 is the exceptional 5R100 tranny. With the tow/haul feature makes a great tow tranny. These years also go to the coil front suspension over the leaf spring design. The turning radius has improved...and larger tires are easier to fit with out a level kit.

The '02 had the 7.3L and has a really good reputation and following. They are great work engines...and with proper maintenance will go 225,000 to over 300,000 miles.

Good luck with your SD choice!

biz

Welcome. I'd go with an '05-'06 diesel. They're not the same animal as the '03-'04 6.0 and have far fewer issues than that engine had. The '03-'04 6.0L engine gave the 6.0 the reputation it has, but since then it has evolved into a pretty strong and reliable engine. Besides what Biz mentioned in terms of improvements, the '05-'06 models also have a lot more goodies than the previous Super Duty's. Electronic climate control, integrated tow brake, better message center, new gauges, bigger breaks, etc. Tire selection, in terms of sizes, is slightly more limited with the 17"-18" wheels over the 16", but tire manufacturers are catching up.

Welcome allenohara. I would say go with the 05 - 06. I absolutely love mine. A few minor problems with my 05 6.0, but PROBLEM FREE WITH POWERTRAIN. Greatest truck I ever own so far. I have around 27,000 miles so far. The amarillo looks great in my opinion. But I decided to go with a Dark Stone/ Arizona Beige two tone Lariat. Good luck and enjoy

Welcome allenohara! I'm with wiingnut. Go with the 05-06 if possible. I love my '06, and I'm pretty sure most of the earlier demons with the 6.0 have been resolved. As far as the Amarillo pkg., it's definitively a looker, just a little to bright for my taste! My '06 is all black!
