96 Cargo Version split rear door latching mechanism
On my 96 Cargo version, with the dual swinging rear doors, I need the lower latching mechanism from inside the left door... but don't want to pay a fortune for one. Mine is rusted and is beyond salvage. Luckily the doors themselves are fiberglass otherwise they would be in bad shape too. In-fact, I wouldn't mind replacing the on in right rear door too but that one still works ok.
Do I ever know where you are coming from. I currently have 2 cargo aero's myself, and have owned 8 in the last 10 years. The door mechanisms on these things are junk. Not only the latches, but the handles and hardware as well. They never seem to shut properly. If I am at a yard, I will certainly look around for you. Have you tried your yards at all? The cargo versions are getting harder and harder to find at the salvage yards...they seem to go straight to the crusher for some reason.
Not many yards around here and the few there are have been crushing lately because they are going broke... one old fella I think is going to crush out and retire soon.
I guess it's just a stupid design of this part. I think water runs in the top of the door at the upper latch and waterfalls onto the lower latch causing it to rust.
Yep you are exactly right. Any time one of my guys puts one of my expensive tools in the back by the doors he gets a good chewin out. Never fails...the tool gets water damage every time it rains.
