what is a push rod?

what is a push rod?The directions thatr came with my rebuilt master cylinder says if the new master didnt come with a pushrod use the old one.but what is a push rod?is it inside the master cylinder itselfor on my truck?96 f 250 4x4 351w thanks!

It is the rod that actuates the master cylinder. On the 80's/90's versions, it stays in the brake booster.
