I have decided that I want to change the gears in my truck. It's a 91 F150 33" tires 302 engine and m5OD tranny. I currently run stock 3.55 gears. What I would like to do is sawp rears with higher ratios (aroud 4.11's) from another truck. I have acess to LOTS of cheap truck parts. My question is does anybody know what different gear options were available on these ford trucks. What door sticker axel code should I be on the lokout for? I think my door axel code is 19. Any help is greatly appreciated I relly need to change the gears because I now have to tow with the truck. I would be doing the work myself. Thanks -Mike
No, you can BUY 4.10's as an aftermarket gear ratio. What Mustang is saying is that you won't be finding a set out of another Ford truck too easily. Try www.broncograveyard.com and you should be able to find them there.
If you have the dana 44 up front, you will need to change the front carrier as well, if you go to 4.11's anyway. It's a cheap part, around $60.00 for an open carrier. Check out www.ringpinion.com for a good idea of whats available.
I've never heard of it being an option on any vehicle other than the lightning...
My senses tell me if it was available on a bronco - it would be available on the F-150 too because they'd be the same parts.
Unfortunately there is always a lot of "yes it had it" or "no it didn't have it"...
Who knows...doesn't really matter because you won't find one.
You can run 3.55s, 3.73s, 4.10s, 4.56s, 4.88s, or even 5.13s if you want...
I'd run either a 3.73 or 4.10. You'll run kinda high RPM on the highway with 4.10s - if you do a lot of highway driving your gas mileage will be affected enough that it might make you want 3.73s...that choice is yours...
You can pick up gears anywhere - they're popular. I think I got my 4.10s from summit at $190 (ford racing gears).
I'm running 4.10s with the 35s and it spins alil too high for my taste but it's ok. At 75 I'm running about 2300-2400 RPM.
You can calculate it with...
MPH x GEAR RATIO x 336 / TIRE SIZE (diameter) = xxx * OD ratio (yours is .80).
So if I did mine mathmatically...
75 x 4.10 x 336 / 34.8 = 2968 (4th)
times the OD ratio of .78 for me = 2315

My last roadtrip in my 72 dodge motorhome was 3500+ from MA to MD.
It's got a 318ci motor in a 10,000 lb rig with 4.56s and small diameter tires - 3 spd 727 trans.
Gonna swap it out for a 440ci with BB 727 trans and maybe different gears in the future...I'd like it to go 65-70 comfortably and get somewhat decent mileage.
But it's kinda nice drivin my F-150 on the hwy and still getting 16 or so mpg with the size of it.
I take a lot of trips up to maine or other places with it - often towing - so gas is important still.

I decided to go with 3.73 gears. I should be able to find them from a factory truck. I belive I will have to look for door tag code (B6). It was only available in a limited slip setup i think. Any confirmation or reasurance on this would help. Thanks for all you input guys. -Mike
Also does anybody know what year(s) this option was installed on??
