I found that I have 1 bad injector in my ' 87 6.9 with 129k on it. I have 2 questions.
The engine has an aftermarket ATS turbo on it. I don't know if it has turbo or non-turbo injectors. Does it make a difference which one I replace it with?
Does anyone have any experience buying injectors on Ebay? They sell rebuilts for $15.75 plus shipping. The cheapest I have found from a parts house here is $58.
thanks
I dont know much about ordering the injectors on ebay, but there are injection shops all over the place or from this forum who will rebuild what you have for about the same price. You will need the injectors and the install kit.
there is no difference in the injectors with or without turbo. you compensate for thetur bo in the amount of fuel the injector pump puts out.
as far as ebay injectors, that is something i would stay away from.
There are turbo and non-turbo injectors, but if your truck was running strong before the injector failed, take the one bad injector and have it rebuilt so you keep a matched set. Most any injector shop can rebuild it for you for less than $30.
I would also reccomend against ebay, you really never know what quality of stuff your getting.....
simple take the injectors out of the truck/van and bring them to an injection shop or some diesel shops carry a "pop tester". They will hook the injectors up individually and check for pop pressure and spray pattern.
Each shop is different on charges, some will do it for $5 an injector and others will charge and use the cost for credit for a new injector(s) from them, or some wont even bother to charge cause it is a pretty simple test and not time consuming. So call around, if money is tight.
