Well, while getting help at attempting to wire my glove box light, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with better bulbs for the h-lamps... I don't want silverstars. Have them on the 03 and i don't notice a huge difference, looking mainly at Piaa or philips Nightguide advanced bulbs. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I installed GE "high-performance" bulbs, noticed a nice difference, I'll have to look and see exactly which ones they were. That made a very noticeable difference.
BUT I also replaced my headlights with brand new clear ones, and that made a huge difference by itself.
I just wish I had my mom's brights. Her Silverado is incredibly bright, and I can't figure out why.
I don't want the blue bulbs, I want just bright bulbs that are the regular color. They must match my foggers, no question. What color are those GE high perf? Do you know the model #?
I am running the GE HP's in my '93 too. Noticed a nice difference as well. Replaced both left and right headlight assemblies with some from EBAY. $70 for the set. Installed with no problem. The original ones were so faded and the reflectors were all but gone. To be honest...I have NO idea how the hell I drove before....LOL. Anyway...the HP's are a nice bright light. Buy the twin pack and save a few bucks. They were in the gold package I believe.

Common bulbs loose their brightness over time. It's a normal part of the aging process. They may work 10 years later, just less light than a brand new and equal one.
**Power, I'm thinking like you; the ones that come new with the truck are fine but I wonder what responsible improvements aftermarket have to offer. And in particular, I don't want every other car flashing their brights at me either. Blinding people is very uncool at night. This might be a research it and go for it test.

yeah, i'm def. in the market for a higher output headlight. And I saw somewhere some black/smoked clear corners, that would blend nicely with my dark silver paint...
I have Sylvania Cool Blue's in my Ranger. I've had them about three years. They aren't blue, as the name would imply, but pure white. A huge difference for the better, it's just like daytime in front of you at night. The high beams really shine. I get the high beam flash rarely, only about three times in the three years.
It seems people like to high beam flash around here. They often do it to me in my LTD (which has normal headlights), and they are surprised to see two more headlights (for a total of four) flash back at them.
Rangerpilot: TMK the Silverado and several other cars have monofilament bulbs which have just that. One filament per bulb. The Ranger has dual filament bulbs. To comply with FMVSS, the amount of lumination for fogs, brights, and low beams can't exceed a certain amount. I am unsure of what this 'magical' number is. Now, the Silverado to my knowledge, much like the Explorer from 02+ (I am uncertain on the 'Rado but certain on the explorer) has two main reflectors per headlamp assembly. This means that when you click on the brights with a monofilament design, the low beams stay on with the high's. This means illumination far and close. Antoher thing to consider is that many states have laws regarding the number of forward lights that can be active at any time. Ford designed the dual filament for many reasons, some of which are beyond me, but I do know my brights work great in 'flash to pass mode' which makes both filaments, high and low turn on at the same time. However, when the brights are on NOT in 'flash to pass' mode, they only turn on the high filaments. This is my reasoning...
I have the Silverstars in my 05 and I did notice a good difference. I just put them in my Fog Lights today. GE has a new one out that is in the same line with the Silverstars. I can't remember their name but I do know Wally World sells them and they are cheaper then the Silverstars.
Do you have the silverstars that are tinted blue? I think the GE ones are Nighthawk or something like that. I am having trouble debating whether the new bulbs are worth it or not. Blue tinted ones don't help me much. Orem's seem decent though as they are clear...
Hey MattyF...
I got them off ebay. The headlights/clear corner combo ran me ab $120 shipped. I'd imagine you could get the clear corners for around $30 shipped.
