Well, I think the problem has been solved. I ran it a good 25 miles and there was not a single problem. If the problem were still there I would definitely have known by now. I'm still not sure which was the cause of the problem.. the coil or the fuel filter, but after replacing both it seems to be running just fine. Thanks everyone for your help! Got it running in the nick of time also, its snowing at the moment and my car is useless in this weather, the ford just pushes right through!
Well, I thought I had it cured. After replacing the fuel filter and coil yesterday, I must have driven 25 miles last night without a single problem. This morning, on my way to church.. I drove 2 or 3 miles and it died out on me again. So.. looks like I'm back to the drawing board.
Yeah, Im still leaning towards fuel delivery. As far as I know, I have 2 fuel filters on my truck. There is one that is almost a stone type of material thats in the carbuerator. I have yet to replace that one. The other one is located in a canister that is screwed into the fuel pump. I replaced that one figuring its the first one that the fuel hits. Is one more prone to clogging than the other?
You just might have a problem with flakes in the gas tank that are plugging these filters.
If it was me ,I would get that checked.
You did mention running the gas tank empty.

It's been a long time since I posted here because I had the motor out of my truck for a rebuild. My motor is in the process of going back in and one thing I did notice is that the fuel line going from the fuel pump to the carbuerator had a very nasty crimp in it.. almost cutting off the fuel supply. Perhaps this may be a reason why it would stop running? I will be replacing the line on Monday, so we'll see. I also may down the road (or if the problem persists) get rid of the points system for a newer electronic distributor. Hopefully Monday night I'll be starting it up!
