for anyone who loves flathead 6 and 8 cylinder engines check out uncommon engineering. Be sure to have a roll of paper towels.

About the same as without a blower as long as some basics are followed.

Keep the boost down to 5-6 # and use an aftermarket center cap on the center main primarily for peace of mind.

Dont run CR over 7

Use a blower package that includes protection against pre ignition.

AND buy Joe Abbins book "Blown Flathead" from many sources including Speedway & Amazon.

Close to 300hp with 276 cubes AND reliable is easily attainable.

Joe Abbin is an interesting character. He lives in my town and I have met with him a few times and talked with him quite a bit. The man has his own dyno!!

i wish y block would become this popular that would realy make my day my year maybe a decade well i wont go that far

p.s. that blower bomb going off in my face could make me never consider putting a supercharger on my car

I have DSL and I have to toggle back and forth between the "Play" and "Pause" bottons. It usually starts if I do it once.

I couldn't get it to play either, but above the video window is a link that says something like "switch to flash player" and when I did it played just right.

Now, I know nothing about blowers so for curiosity's sake, what would make that thing blow like that? I've seen them on the big dragsters going wide open and can understand that, but this one was running low revs and almost sounded like it was winding down real slow when it went. Does a backfire from the engine light it off?

Typically when the blower pops off the intake manifold a backfire does it, lots of reasons: stuck intake valve, hot spot in cylinder, crossfiring thru ingnition wires, stuck or no popit valve. SCOTT supercharged flatheads were very popular in the 50s-60s.

Superchargers can be made to operate reliably on just about any engine. They add reliable horsepower to flathead Fords. Joe Abbin has proved that and sells kits to mount to flatheads as well as his book. Magnacharger also sells blowers for flatheads. Uncommon engineering is probably the most expensive way to go if you want a supercharged flathead Ford V-8. H&H in California will build up a flathead Ford V-8 or 4-banger. You can find them at http://www.flatheads-forever.com.

Like the sign in the speed shop: "Speed cost money. How fast do you want to go?"
