Good day eh?
Every time I log into this site I get a little reminder than I have never posted here - so here goes!
I bought a 1994 350 4x4 with a 7.3L diesel about a month ago. Don't know a whole lot about truck diesels (I have 2 diesel tractors). I am having a slow starting problem after truck sits for a few days so I thought I would do some research on glow plugs. I looked under "1994.5 - 1997 Power Stroke Forum" and found lots of info on glow plugs but all the talk was about removing the valve covers to get to the glow plugs. Not on my engine - glow plugs are outside in plain sight. So I went to the "Pre-Power Stroke Forum", thinking that maybe I do not have a Powerstroke, but I got even more confused.
So - how do I find out what I really have under the hood of this beastie?
Sounds like you have a pre - powerstroke to me. and it is sounding like you have is a classic (air getting into fuel system problem). If the return lines are painted gray then they are getting old and letting air into the system but no fuel will leak. Replace all hoses and clamps between injectors and also to fuel filter. This should solve your problem. I've got a 93 and had this problem a couple of years ago put new lines on and haven't had a problem since. I've had to do this to my IH 1460 combine and IH 1066. Just something that has to be done after so long.

Thanks for the help. Found out it IS pre-powerstroke, found out what IDI means, found out what I suspected - air leak, found out cure - replace all the lines!!
I'm glad I came here!

Nope. There is some good "gen" here. I haven't fixed the truck yet, I just think I know what has to be done. I had a good look under the hood today at all the rubber hoses, don't see any visible problems but I think they gotta go.
Expect once I fix this one I wil be back with more questions 'cause I intend to mount a set of 5th wheel rails in this truck and haul a flat bed 5th wheeler loaded with old tractors!
