My 48 f1 front springs are almost flat if not flat with the motor in it.The shops around here say they should be almost straight. Is this right?I would think they should have some arch in them.Just checking to be sure.
THANKS

Art, just to let you know my experience....I had a set of front leaf springs for my '51 F1 that I bought from JC Whitney about 7 years ago. They had very little (under 500) miles on them before I reworked the whole truck. I took out two leaves on each side, the bottom one, then the 3rd up from the bottom. Putting the truck back together, the springs de-arched slightly. I also added a power ram assist steering in the build up. My first test drive was very squirrely, the front end almost rolled side to side when turning. I ordered another set of springs and put them on, they have a regular arch to them installed, and the body roll is gone with a much better ride. I have heard lots of people say taking the leaves out is fine, but it could have been that combined with my power steering that it really affected the body roll. Just the two springs out each side seemed to really soften the springs too much. I'm not sure the manufacturer of the JC Whitney springs, but they are marked Made in USA so I'd think they are ok quality.
Just wanted to share with you since I just went through this.
Thanks for the info.I took mine past the spring shop and they said they were fine. The guy even said the old springs seem to hold up better than the new ones do.I'm going to keep my old ones for now. They can make my new ones for around $125.00 each. Not a bad price if I need them.
