2003 f-250
2003 f-250
I was out truck shopping when my Grandpa called me and said there is a mint 03 f-250 XLT, super cab, short bed, FX4, power stroke, automatic, red with the XLT sport package, with 45k on it. He talked to the guy the guy has all the maintenance records on it said it has been in the shop once for a rough idle which the dealer fixed with the scanner. He is asking 24.5K but said any reasonable offer will take it it needs to go...What is this truck worth??? Any problems I should look for??? It also has a 6 inch lift and some 35's and both these add ons are a few thousand miles old. I am also looking at putting a plow on this thing, and it might get a little scary with the lift but oh well..Is this truck worht it??? Also how hard is it to put roof clearance lights on the truck??? it doesnt have them now and I really like that feature,
thank you,
Mike

it sounds nice of course, but i can't give an educated opinion about it unless i saw and looked over it myself.
that being said, i usually wouldn't ever buy something already lifted, but if so, make sure to get an expert to look it over to make sure its done right, don't inherit some else's problem.
that being said, paying a few bucks and getting a pro diesel knowledgable mech oout there to look it over is worth while investment also.
look on kelly's blue book to see its value.
get a carfax and oasis report on it also, don't just buy into the guys maintenece record.
2003 seem to be the prob year for 6.0's, but not all of them are prob child's. the history reports will be a vital tool in seeing the history of this thing.
thats all from me, other people will fill in with some useful info also, good luck!

You can get an oasis report from some of the other diesel sites. I'll send you a pm on that. However I have owned an '03 Crewcab since new and I had an idling problem as well, so it sounds like they are at least on the up and up on that. See if you can find out what month it was manufactured. Mine is a March build, which still has the old style c94 injectors. I've had one replaced and I now have 62k miles on the truck. It is the best vehicle I've ever owned, plenty of power and the fit and finish on my particular truck has been just excellent. True, some 03's were problem childs but many are great too. But I would say if it hasn't been in for a lot of service, seems to run good and you could have a decent mechanic familiar with a 6.0 would be nice too.
Now wait a minute, you never said if it was a 6.0 liter? Could be a 7.3, both were offered in '03!!! I'll send you to a place to get an oasis right now.

I would look under the hood and see if you see any evidence of puking. Look at the level of the coolant resivoir and around the cap (just below the min line is OK on a 6.0). Look down in the engine to see if you can see any other dried coolant. I would also look at the area where the trans and the engine meet to see if it is leaking.
Good luck.
Good luck.
