electric choke wiring

Hopefully this has a simple answer.

The electric choke on my 2150 carb in not connected. P.O. removed the wiring. Where should I run a wire to for power? Does this use 12v at key-on or should it connect to the field connection on the alternator?

Thanks

Field connection is best.

If it is a 12 volt electric choke, you'll need to connect to a key on 12 volt source. Mine is on the accesory fuse at the fuse box. If it is a stock carb, the S or stator connection on the alternator is the place to connect it. Stator only makes power when the alternator is turning and engine running but it's 6 or 7 volts.

Good luck.

Hmm I had assumed it was 12v but now I'm not sure. This is the original motocraft 2150 w/elec choke from 1977.

Field connection is best.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think you mean STATOR connection on alternator ,as Designed by FORD.
12 volts constant will BURN UP the choke coil.
That's why smaller voltage at the alt.
This allows for power ONLY when alternator os turning (engine running)
Why would one want voltage to the choke when the engine Isn't running, especially almost double the power ?
You can link to this if you like ?
Yes, stator instead of field. I've been running 12 volts to the choke on my truck for over 4 years now with no problems at all.
He he I have the poor man's manual choke right now. I've got the screws loose and I just turn it by hand
Thanks Mil1ion!
The OEM electric choke is connected as in the diagram in Mil1ion's post above. Aftermarket electric chokes are often connected to 12V Key-ON sources.
You can still use the stator term wire to trigger a relay to operate a 12v choke coil so that it operates only when the engine is running.
Does the orange wire from the regulator go to the FLD connector on the alternator?
