Ok, so i want to replace my neutral safety switch. the problem is, when i tried unscrew the main bolt which also happens to select the gears or whatever the truck started to roll back and almost killed me. no i didnt have it on jackstands cause i thought i could get away with it. and no i didnt have the wheels chucked or whatever cause again, i thought it would be no big deal. . . . well i did have something that apparently saved my life. i happened to get my ladder down off the bed and set it on the floor behind the left rear wheel. long story short apparently it saved my life. my 3 yr old son happened to be under there with me and i swear to god i dont know how he got so far away in the nick of time, i mean, i did scream for him to go and get out but it was one of those in the heat of the moment type of "get out of the way"'s
he was sad cause daddy screamed at him but i made it up to him and expained that daddy then needed to go change his undies cause he pooped himself lol
anyway, so i guess i should get jackstands and wheel chucks yes?
aside from that, the emergency brake(which wasnt on for some weird reason
--i always put it on--) and i should be good to move that thing right?
can anyone give me any other tips or idea i might not have? will i have to reset the gear selector or something after i replace the switch . .. should i have it in neutral??
when i bought the new switch, it came with the harness. am i supposed to splic the old wires into this new plug? thanks in advance guys, i would really appreciate your advice!
I take it this is the fix for the bad plugs on the E4OD transmissions.
I knew you have to splice on a new plug but did not know you had to replace the switch in this fix.
Yes you block a truck before you go under and take it out of park.
my truck wont start. im replacing the neutral safety switch because its one of the only things left that i can think of to get it to start
when i bought the new switch it came with the plug/harness. im supposed to cut splice and connect the wires into the new plug? how am i supposed to get them in there? solder(sp?) them? cause the new plug doesnt have any extra slack of wires. . does that make sense to anyone?
Before you go any further, leave the plug off and jump the two Red wires with a Blue stripe together at the plug and see if it will start. If it does than your switch is bad. If it does not start then the switch is OK.
MAKE SURE THE CHILD IS NOT AROUND WHEN YOU TRY TO START IT.
i should cut the wires off of the switch and jump the two red wires together? in other words(for clarity's sake) strip the two red wires and touch them together to try to start the truck correct?
also, the starter was recently replaced. i had some guy do it cause he charged me 40 bucks and some beer to do it. . . its a long story but it was a friend of my dads who needed the cash so i let him do it. ANYway . . . so he was telling me that the spade connector broke and he had me go buy some more connectors and he put it in.
I do not remember what the plug is like but if it has pins use a small jumper wire with small clips. If it is a female just stick each end of the wire in each hole.
Don't cut the wires.
ok so i replaced it but left the original harness. number one it didnt look bad, and number two i wasnt gonna go through wiring a whole new harness if i didnt have to. i tried it with the old harness and it works great. thanks for the help guys
