What do you guys think is a fair price for dual pipes in my truck. I went to a local muffler shop and the guy told me he would do it for $325. He also said that my truck had the air suspension in the back and there was not enough room to work so I would have to remove my spare tire for this. By the way my truck is a 99 EB 2WD with the 5.4 thanks.
Hi! I see nobody has replied to your question so I will tell you our experience with dual exaust on our Expy. Ours is a 98 XLT with the 4.6. I called 2 places for price checks. The one place that is a tranny/muffler shop, the guy told me they wouldn't do it because it would mess up our tranny and HUNG UP on me?!?! So to ease my fears, my husband had me call my cousin that has been a Ford Mechanic for years and he said no problems would be caused because it is an electric shift tranny and they didn't know what they were talking about. Don't know for sure what tranny we have.
So we had it done at a local shop for UNDER $150 which included glass paks. I don't know what size paks he used but the pipes are 2". It was my hubby's birthday present so I told him to make it as loud as possible with out anything illegal. The only thing I didn't like that he had to do was come out one side instead of both. The guy that did it nows fords also and he said that the gas lines would be too close or touching the pipes. He might of been able to bring the straight out the back but we need our spare since we camp a lot and don't want to be stranded somewhere with a flat. So if you don't mind yours coming out one side, you might try this also.
But it sounds GREAT!! We only use it to pull our camper, putting about 5000 miles on it a year, but my hubby says the more the glass paks get burned out the louder it will be. The noise isn't that loud inside, the kids watch TV and we can talk to each other with out having to raise our voices Oh yeah, we had this done in Nebraska. So far no problem with the tranny The only thing that I have noticed, hmm how do I say this, you can't rev it up at someone while going down the road. Like let off the gas and then push the gas and go VRooM VRooM, doesn't work.

I have seen 1st and 2nd generation XLT's with the dual exhaust pipes coming out on both sides. I don't know if they had their spares removed or not. Just reporting my observations.
I think I've seen a few that come out the back, but the are at maybe a 45 degree angle and more at the corners of the truck. Perhaps this is because of the spare tire issue. Personally, I think its ugly that way, but if you want it out the back, maybe that is an option.
I too have seen dual exaust coming out the back also, but I made a point to look and see if the spare was removed and yes it was. It also didn't have glass paks, had a performance muffler and it didn't sound as good as the paks. If you could do without your spare go for it! The ones I seen didn't stick out past the bumper, they were even with it, oh and actually the tips were even with it. And they ran right at where the outside edge of the spare would of been. I went and looked on our expy today and yes there are hoses on the drivers side and I suppose the guy who did ours didn't want to have the possibility of melting anything so he wouldn't do it, but I suppose it could be done, or like the above poster mentioned coming out the sides back farther but ours come out behind the wheel.
My '99 Eddie Bauer has dual exhaust. Brought both tips out the passenger side just behind the rear wheel. I was told the spare tire had to be removed in order to come out the back. Due to alot of highway traveling for my job, I chose to just have it brought out the side. it looks great and sounds awesome. My wife likes it better than her '98 Mustang GT Convertible.
