Hey guys its official the hurricane engine which was scrapped last year is back on the frontburner. According to the detroit news. Ford has given orders to the Cleveland casting plant to develop a new 6.2 engine. Official have also visted Dearborns truck plant where the 150 is made to see what changes on the line will have to be made to accomodate the new engine. The time frame is uncertain though on when it will officially be available. To maintain Fords F-series leadership it was decided that power had to be upped to compete with Chevys higher powered vortec engines an Chryslers hemi. So far all you horsepower freaks out there this should be welcome news. As far as the diesel goes have not heard anything latly on that.
Why is Ford worried about GM? Their sales are going to drop drastically, even worse then they have already, in light of recent developments in the GM camp.
Who wants to drop $30+K on a new Chevy in hopes that replacement parts will be available or that the dealership you bought it at will even be around in a few months?
I know that is a little drastic, but I wouldn't invest anything in a sinking ship until they right themselves... but then again, you can get a screamin' deal right now on a new 'Vette.
I wonder if the Hurricane will fit in a new-gen Expy? Hmmmm...
It is not just GM they worry about. Ford is quickly becoming the small truck in the 1/2 ton market. GM and Nissan already have more power/performance and even Toyota is getting in the game in a big way. I am glad to see it.
But I also agree with CMOS, ... Dear Ford, please test ....
... and also don't make the machine consume every drop of gas in a tri-county area. (I might be asking a bit to much here).
Not a big GM fan either, but it is a little harsh to say that they are a sinking ship. Ford is also in trouble, and not much better off than GM. Their vehicles, and Fords, will be around a long time, and parts will too.
