I have a 1988 f250 i had trouble starting it.
things that have been done...
tune up
new fuel pumps
eec valve
fuel filter
cold sensor
anyways.... i turn it on, hear the fuel pumps, wait it wont start, if i do this over and over it sometimes will start, when it does if i press the gas it studders and stalls and then i usually can get it to start again put can't touch the gas,
If I am having trouble starting especially in colder temps if I spary starter fluid i can get it to startbut still studders.
Any suggestions, please

When you say "pumps", you mean all 3? Do you have dual tanks? Does it do it on either tank? Have you checked for any codes? Could be TPS, F/P regulator or any number of things. Check your codes first. These could point you in the right direction.
my friend-side job mechanic.... tested all the pumps in the tanks... worked fine, pressure was good in both tanks, the only code it did throw was for the egc so he changed it , it still does not start... the problem i described is what is still happening now after all the work.
I am a girl so bare with me when you give me help i am just frustrated because he couldn't fix it after having my truck for 3 months and he talked eith the dealership and they have no clues either so i started to do my own research.
Not sure but would think it would be one of three things.
1. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve stuck open.
2. TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) bad
3. SPOUT (SPark OUTput jumper) not put back in.
Though about the Idle Air Control Valve but not sure it would cause this but may be bad also.
also how about the computer its self or could it be fuel injectors?
The EEC Computer is also possible but I did not want to go there yet. I would not think the injectors would be doing this unless it putting out a lot of black smoke.
i know what the part i think is the egc that was replaced looks like so if i describe it can you tell me if it was the egc instead of what i had said originally as the eec?
i know it was on the left side(pass. side ) near the engine, some what round..sound like anything familar- where is the eec located?
sorry i sound so stupid but if it is any consolation I am very mechanically inclined and if you guide me i could probably fix it its just i thought i would leave it to someone who works on cars and as you can see it still is running the same

Fordfuelinjection.com says drivers side kick panel.
Kim open the hood look on the driveside firewall way down for a big connector with a single 10mm bolt in the middle, there are two plugs, the EEC is the closest to the fender (vertical rectangular shape) and the chassis harness (large rounded shape) is the other one. These are not cheap hope this helps.
Just by the fact you CAN get it started by pushing the gas pedal in sometimes AND that it will START again AFTER you've had it started, I would really check the fuel pressure regulator. I've seen them flood once they sit for a while, most of the time you can start the vehicle, but if you do it will be tough, and it won't run very well.
A simple test, not fool proof of course, is to pull off the red plastic line that leads to it, pull it off the intake manifold and try to suck on it, if you get ANY gas at all, it's shot. Just my $.02
My truck had similar problems, and symptoms. Does yours smoke at all when its sputtering? Mine did. On my truck I found that the fuel pressure regulator went and had the fuel pressure sky high. It broke #6 injector somehow ( i dont know).
If the fuel pressure regulator on the truck is a bosch, assume its broke because everyone i talked to said they were junk. The fuel pressure regulator should be on the driverside of the engine just along the middle of the air intake.
Good luck cant say its this but its worth a try.
