Spark Plug Gap Question

I have a 1948 with the original 337 CI Flathead V8. It is now 12 volt and I have added a Pertronix electronic ignition. My manuals tell me the plug gap should be .029-.032 with stock points and 6 volt. I'm using standard Champion H10's.

Should I shoot for .032? What happens if I go wider say .035? What is the theory / voodoo magic when it comes to plug gaps?

Waiting to get above freezing to flush and repair the radiator. Maybe this is the week?

The larger the gap, the bigger the spark, the more likely the mix is to fire, especially on a flathead assuming you have enough voltage to jump the gap. In theory you should get the best performance with the largest gap that will reliably fire. The problem comes with age, as the plug ages the gap gets larger due to erosion and heating/cooling cylcles. My recommendation would be to start with the upper end of the gap range. If you don't notice any miss when accellerating especially when the engine is cold, you're good.
