I did a 79 Bronco swap, made motor mount from the 390 van version. welded a flate plate to the 390 mounts. Put "transfer screws" (available at tool and die supply places cheap-like a set screw with a center punch on th end) in the motor mount tapped holes. Bolted 390 mounts to the frame and sat the engine in place, which left center punches where the tapped holes in the block sat on the mounts. Lifted engine, removed plates from frame, and drilled the holes in mounts. Everything else was VERY easy swap. Put the electronic ignition distributor for the M motor in the 429. I had 6" suspension lift so I was cheap and kept the car oil pan since I had room. Only othe thing was about a 1/2" notch I had to add for exhaust clearance on passenger side. That way I ran the 429 manifolds w/o having t buy headers. LOVED it after that. 429, C-6, 4.56 gears and 38.5 swampers...Oh to be young again, Now I miss my Bronco!
i wondered what that plate between my trans and bellhousing was for. i had heard of people using i believe a 390 flywheel? what flywheel and clutch do you use if you shim your bellhousing?
your 400 and 460 share the bell housing... all you need for an auto swap is the 460, 460 torque converter and flywheel, motor mounts, and exhaust... and if the motor is out of a car youll need a rear sump oil pan kit for the 460... also the car manifolds dont fit on the right side
I was really cheap with my 429 swap. Had 9" lift, so I kept car pan, and took a real small notch from the frame rail to keep the exhaust manifold
