NEW MEMBER: Needs Mechanic

Hello:
I purchased a 1968 F-250 Camper Special (390ci, A/T) about a year ago, and did so primarily because: a) I have always wanted to own this model; b) The icing on the cake was the fact that it is in original condition - all badges/emblems are present, all gauges, switches, *****, etc are all original; bench seat, floor mat, etc are all original.

However, currently the truck does not run. I began the disassembly process a few months back, but due to extensive work travel, have not been able to progress past this point. What I am looking for is a really good Ford mechanic or shop in my area. I would like to have the .390 rebuilt "from the ground up" as well as either: a) a new tranny/torque converter or b) possibly replace the A/T with a 4 spd. In addition, this shop or mechanic would also perform a complete brake replacement, rebuild the front end, etc, etc - In other words a complete "restification".

My goal is to shoot for approx 375HP and 425-450 ft/lbs torque. I need someone who can help me evaluate the best parts to use to achieve what it is I am looking for, have enough experience to make the change to a 4 spd (if I go that route) and just be overall highly knowledgeable.

Does anyone know of such a person/location in the Redding, CA area?

Thank very much to all for any assistance

Pete

To pay someone is way over the top in labor not alone parts.
Keep that C-6 unless you have a donor truck to pull a 4 speed, drive shaft, clutch linkage, then again what's it's condition? For you trouble a 5-speed would be good for your highway rpm's. Get manuals and study up as these old trucks as they are simple besides you'll learn alot more by working on it yourself.
BTW, 68 CS a good choice, I have one.

Yeah, I'd say do it yourself. Espically the brakes, tranny swap, things like that. The motor wouldn't be too bad to take somewhere to have it rebuild, expecially if its going to have to be bored, crank turned, etc. I would definatley go for the 4 speed bulldog transmission. You can't beat it!
Good luck with your truck and welcome to the forum
