Red face Stupid question

I have two areostars 91 and 92 both 3 litre engines. My question is on the automatic shift what is the rule on using the O setting (I suppose that means overdrive). Told you it was a stupid question.

The only stupid question is the one not asked! I usually drive in the Overdrive setting under normal circumstances, even in city traffic. The only time I use anything other than the Overdrive is when going uphill or downhill. It's important to shift to lower gears downhill so you don't have to use the brake too often, otherwise the brakes will get hot and the brake fluid might even boil. It happened to me once and that's enough. Very scary thing going downhill without brakes!!!!!!!!!!!

Towing would be another time when you shouldn't use overdrive

Thanks. Would you even start from a dead stop in overdrive? When shifting back into drive when climbing a hill do you let the engine slow down first? My older aerostar tend to shift rough unless I let it slow down a little.
