My keyless entry works great but i'm wanting to use it to lock and unlock the doors while the truck is running and it will not.
for example if i need to run in and pay for fuel i don't want to shut my truck down and just crank it back a few seconds later after i come out of the store. i'd like to leave it running and take the keyless entry and lock it while it's running and unlock it when i get back and it still running
any tricks, tips ,,,,,,,,,,,,is this normal .........my other (non ford) truck will do this
I have an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry on my 01. It doesn't want to lock the doors while the truck is running but it will unlock them. I keep my key and my remote on a clip so I can pull off the remote and take it with me. My wife's Ford keyless remote will not do the same thing.
On the focus there was a 12v+ wire that we cut to basically bypass this. Whats happening is the truck is sending IGN 12v+ to the keyless entry box telling it the truck is running, which disables the keyless entry. If you cut that power wire, it will think the truck is off.
I will check on the focus boards to see which wire on the module had to be clipped.
Yep, it's related to the year of the truck. Pre-2002 the keyless entry (your key fob, or the keypad with numbers you can add and stick to your door) does not work while the engine is running. It's related to the GEM module. Kinda stinks, huh.
You can get a remote start or ignition override to allow you to pull to turn the key off and pull it out, but the truck keeps running. Then you can just lock the doors and take the keys with you, and use the key to get back in. For now I just keep two keys on my keyring, and one is on a quick disconnect, which I use for starting the truck. If I want to leave it running, I just pop the rest of my keys off, lock it, and go - and use the extra key to get back in. Makes me nervous leaving the key in the ignition, with no override or shift lock or anything on it yet, so I only do it when I can keep an eye on the truck.... until I get a remote start or ignition override unit, etc.
That Focus trick sounds like the ticket ...........are we sure this will not work on our trucks ............i carry enough keys without trying to add another truck key to my ring.
My 02 remote will lock all the doors but a second later the driver's door unlocks because the truck is running. It will do the same if I use the electric lock button. But, if you push the manual lock down after it pops up it will stay locked. So I put my remote on a quick-disconnect. Then when I come back out just use the remote to unlock.
You know, my key is worn enough that I can pull it out when the truck is running. So, if I want to lock it, i pull the key and push the lock button. It sucks having to open it with the key, but better than nothing. When I had the viper installed, my buddy asked if I wanted to be able to arm it with the motor running. I said no cuz that would mean no kill switch. I could already imagine a theif going down the road in my truck with the alarm blaring.

That's another "feature" to keep you from locking the keys in the truck. I believe if you disable the key-in-ignition dinger by removing the little contact in the ignition cylinder/tumbler area, or cutting the black/pink wire, it will also disable this "anti-lockout" feature. In my truck, the fob doesn't work at all with engine running, but I CAN use the power button on my door to lock all the doors with engine running, and my driver door lock will not pop back to unlocked afterwards. So, if you don't like that feature, you can do the dinger disable to disable it, I believe, or just keep using the power lock button, waiting for your lock to pop back up, then push it down by hand, and go.

I have my "key dinger" disabled via unplugging it at the ignition cylinder.
I have an 01 and I can assure you that my FOB will not unluck it when it is running. Don't ask how I know this, don't want to talk about it. I too need to fix this problem.
