Intake was sealed up tight, everything had to have come thru the K&N. 
The truck does still run and sound good but I have little doubt that there is probably some carnage inside the motor as well (or at least a good wad of junk in the intercooler). There was plenty of dirt and fine wheat chaff in the intake but the big pieces are soft plyable rubber...traced it back to...the K&N. The excess rubber on the sides of the filter seemed to get pinched and cut off when the lid was clamped down. As long as the truck runs good I'm not going to mess with it though. I do see my intercooler coming off for a good cleaning in the future though.
I towed with the new set-up yesterday for the first time also. AWESOME!! I think I'll have to upgrade my gooseneck hitch now though because my old worn out hide-a-hitch flip-down ball was making some serious pings and pangs when I got on the throttle. I guess I have enough truck to find the weak links now.
...and yes the 7.3L does smoke the 6.0L now!! ...in 80HP setting...as long as I don't miss a shift - hard to spool thru the gears as fast as her auto.
