2003 Mountaineer Premeir

Hello - I usually post in the Expedition section, but I am looking at downsizing to the Mountaineer Premeir.

Looking at a 2003 with 49K, DVD, V8 and all the extras I think.

Please give me some feedback as to what to look for and ask about.....is it a good year, etc.? I can pick it up for about 17500.

Thanks!

I am not real familiar with the Mountaineer. We have an 04 Explorer limited V8, Auto, 4x4, 373 rear with towing package, which is probably close to it. It has every option available for the 04. We really like it. The ride is very good. The power is very good. We get about 21/22 highway and 16/17 in town. Ours has about 21k miles and has been to the dealer several times but for stupid things that used to only happen to Chevy people. It hasn't been for anything major. The drivetrain has been flawless.
Hope this helps, Greg

We went from a 2000 Expedition to a 2005 Mountaineer, and like it pretty well. The V6 has decent power and gets a little better mileage than the 5.4, and the wife likes the better maneuverablilty in parking lots and not having to climb up into the Mountaineer like she did the Expy. About the only complaints come from the kids, they miss the reclining seatbacks on the back seat and have a little less leg room than the Expy, but since they are old enough to drive themselves its usually just the 2 of us anyway. We've been averaging about 16 around town, and haven't really taken a trip long enough to see how the highway mileage will be. The V8 would probably be preferable, especially for towing, but the dealer didn't have any in a color my wife liked! All in all, even though I miss the Expy (it got totalled, we didn't get rid of it by choice), the Mountaineer is a pretty nice vehicle.

Thanks for the input!

I bought the Mountaineer. Only complaint I have (aside from getting used to a smaller cabin) is the choppy ride. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve the ride?
