How much does it cost?
If I have a need to change the rear end out on my 03 F250 single rear wheel to a brand NEW set of Ford gears, a 3.73 limited slip...anyone have a ballpark figure of what the total package would cost, not including labor?

For the rear about $700-900. I switched mine out for $0. I completely ripped out my rear end and replaced it with a rear end from a 2001 V10 w/4.30 gears. It took my buddy and I two hours to have everything changed over with rewelding the shock mounts. My buddy used my rear end for a trade on a low pinion D70 to run his 46 inchers. He used a rear end off a Air Force tug that had 7.17s or something close to it. I forget exactly what the gearing he went to. I will tell you this, he can burn his XMLs.

changing a rear end is not cheap. the gears are not too bad but it is all the bearings and set-up parts that are expensive. also the labor will be a lot because there is a lot of trial and error with setting up gears with the right shims for the correct backlash

My buddy tore up the rear-end in his truck pretty bad and the stealership charged him almost $1900 to fix it! Now that was all new parts short of a new housing - as he had some pretty big grear chuncks in there! I forget what the labor/parts breakdown was on his bill....
If you are just needing gears and the limited slip - and don't have any carnage - I gotta believe it would be a lot less for parts!!
